A joke: Save the Strudel ...
Grandpa’s children and grandchildren assembled around his bed. After a very long and productive life, his doctors had pronounced him very near death. He was lying so still that his visitors wondered if he was in a coma.
Suddenly the old man opened his eyes. “Was I dreaming of Heaven? I swear I smelled grandmother’s strudel."
“You weren’t dreaming,” his youngest granddaughter said. “At this very minute, Grandma is downstairs baking strudel.”
“How wonderful. As my last wish, since I’ll never taste her delicious strudel again, please little one, go down and ask her to cut me a slice, okay?” Expectantly, the old man smiled with joy.
The little girl got up immediately and ran down the stairs. After a few minutes, the muffled sounds from the kitchen became louder and louder.
Eventually, the granddaughter returned. She walked slowly, her head bent down. She was empty-handed.
“Where’s the strudel?” asked the old man.
“I’m so sorry, grandpa. I tried arguing with grandma, but she insisted: we have to save the strudel for your wake.”
